+ What file types are acceptable for instant quotes?
For instant quotes, we accept 3D files in the following formats: .stl, .stp, .step, .3mf, and .obj. Most CAD programs used for creating 3D designs can export in one or more of these formats. If your 3D data is in a different file type, please try exporting it again in one of the accepted formats or get in touch by email for a manual review.
+ Where can I find my VAT invoice?
After completing the payment, you will receive an order confirmation email with your VAT invoice at the bottom.
+ Does 3D People have a minimum order cost?
The minimum order cost for our on-demand 3D printing service is £30 + VAT per order. The minimum charge applies to the whole order and not per part within the order. If your items are below the minimum order cost, you can increase the quantities to make up the difference.
The minimum order cost does not include shipping costs.
+ My 3D file size is too big to upload; what can I do?
The online quoting app has an upload size limit of 100Mb. Most large STL files have a level of detail that is too fine to be seen by the human eye, let alone come out in a 3D print. Reducing the size of your 3D file will allow you to upload to the tool without compromising on the quality of your part. Read how to reduce the size of an STL file here. If you can't reduce the file size enough, we recommend using we-transfer to send us your data.
+ My payment has failed; why is this?
The online quote tool uses a secure payment gateway with post-code validation to protect you from fraud. The most common error with failed payments is due to the post-code entered not matching the record for your card issuer. If you are having other issues, please email print@3dpeople.uk for assistance.
+ What is the lead time for on-demand 3D printing?
The lead time is the length of time from placing your order to receiving your 3D prints. Every 3D printing order take time to manufacture (Production Lead Time) and ship (Delivery Lead Time).
Production Lead Time
Production times are counted in working days. For 3D People, this is Monday to Friday and excluding weekends. For example, a part ordered on Monday with a five working day lead time is expected to be ready the following Monday. We also have a 2 pm cutoff for new orders. Any order placed after 2 pm will have its lead time start from the next working day.
The estimated shipping date is calculated based on your manufacturing requirements and displayed within the lead time selection box when using the online quote app.
Delivery Lead Time
If you select to have your order delivered as opposed to factory pick-up, the lead time for the delivery is in addition to the production lead time.
+ Should I include multiple parts in a single 3D file?
It's generally recommended to upload your parts as individual 3D files unless you're considering nesting parts for SLS.
Selective Laser Sintering (SLS)
Our SLS 3D printing service uses a pricing algorithm that allows for 3D nesting. Depending on your files, you might find it more cost-effective to upload parts nested together in a single file. Check out our guide to 3D nesting to learn how to utilise nesting to your advantage.
Multi Jet Fusion (MJF)
MJF 3D printing service calculates prices based on an offset part volume. Grouping multiple parts into one file won't provide a cost benefit when using MJF 3D printing.

+ I'm having trouble uploading my 3D files; what should I do?
If our instant ordering platform isn't working for you, please send your data via our contact form. If there is a technical issue, please share a screenshot.
For larger files, please include a we-transfer link into the message section of your enquiry.
+ How are the prices for 3D printing calculated?
Each 3D printing technology uses a different pricing formula. We use machine learning algorithms to update and improve our formulae to get you the best price. Some factors that affect pricing are:
Boundary Box
The box around your model is the XYZ dimensions.
Model Volume
The volume of the 3D model.
Offset Model Volume
Offsetting the part's surface and recording the new model volume gives you the Offset Model Volume.
Support Volume
FDM and CFF 3D printing sometimes require support material. The volume of support material needed to print your part is estimated and reflected in the pricing.
Orientation
For FDM 3D printing, the part's orientation can affect the price generated by our online quote tool.
Boundary Box Density
Boundary box density is the ratio between the model and boundary box volumes.
Quantity
Price breaks are available for parts ordered in multiple quantities. The online quote tool automatically applies the quantity discount starting from two or more copies of the same file.
